Kim Schaecher founded The Shaggy Dog boarding facility in 1989. She researched and followed the stringent guidelines
set forth by the American Boarding Kennel Association. These guidelines deal with issues such as sanitation, health records,
feeding and care of the animals being boarded, as well as customer relations. Her adherence to these guidelines earned The
Shaggy Dog Voluntary Facility Accreditation (VFA) status from the ABKA, the first such accreditation to be awarded in
the state of Oregon. http://www.abka.com/abka/
Since October of 2000, Shelly Richardson has managed The Shaggy Dog. Since that time, numerous improvements have been
made to the kennel facility. For example, chain link was removed from the kennel and replaced with tempered glass panels,
outdoor exercise yards were added to allow pampered dogs to run off-leash, covered exercise pens were added to protect dogs
from rain and harsh sun, brick siding and a new roof were added to the building that houses reception and grooming, and most
recently, the daycare room was added to the building. The facility was reaccredited during the spring of 2001 and we continue
to follow the ABKA's stringent guidelines.
Shelly and her husband John have raised English Springer Spaniels for over 25 years. They live on the property,
just steps away from the kennel. Shellys' love of all breeds of dogs and cats have inspired her to create a friendly
and inviting home away from home for your pet.
